A customer’s needs will always come before side jobs, taking orders, filling orders, doing the dishes.

(Especially customers that have not ordered yet.  If they feel ignored they may give up and leave.)

When you are filling the customer service position when a customer walks in or comes up to the counter you must:

  1. STOP whatever you are doing and acknowledge them with your eyes and voice. Example:
    1. "Hi! Are you ready to order?”
    2. “Hello! Welcome to the Vic”
    3. “Do you want more hot water?"
  2. DROP whatever you are doing, and approach them with your body
    1. “I’m going to finish making this latte and will be right with you in 10 seconds”
    2. “I’ll be right there to take your order”
    3. “Let me wash my hands and I’ll be right over"
  3. SERVE the customer to meet their needs
